A development

Arkema, a leading company in the production of Advanced Bio-Circular materials derived from renewable castor beans, has experienced significant growth in recent years, thanks to strong market demand for sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

Its flagship material families, namely Rilsan® Polyamide 11 and Pebax® Rnew® thermoplastic elastomers, offer practical low-carbon solutions enabling monomaterial and eco-design approaches thanks to their vegetal origin, exceptional durability, and the ability to be recycled through Arkema's innovative Virtucycle® program.

A remarkable embodiment of these materials' potential is found in the Cloudneo performance running shoeS, developed by Swiss manufacturer On.
The Cloudneo shoes stands out as the world's first 100% recyclable performance running shoes, with its entire construction relying on Arkema's Rilsan® and Pebax® materials. From the laces and upper textile to the midsole foam and injected components, both material families contribute to the shoe's lightweight design, energy return, mechanical strength, and long-lasting performance, thereby meeting demanding technical requirements.

Notably, the compatibility between these two material families, stemming from their shared chemistry, allows for the shoe to be recycled as a single piece. This unique feature enables the shoe to be regenerated into a useful material for future shoe components, promoting a circular economy and minimizing waste in the process.
